Open Days at the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: Summary

On June 5–6, 2025, the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine held open days for university students. During this time, the Institute was visited by about 70 undergraduate students from the Educational and Scientific Center «Institute of Biology and Medicine» of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The students had the opportunity to tour the laboratories and learn about the main research areas of the Institute.

Of particular note was the opportunity for direct communication with researchers, which allowed students to delve deeper into experimental methodologies and gain insight into the current state of scientific work at the Institute.

During the event, students visited the Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design, the Department of Cytomorphology and Molecular-Biological Markers of Tumor Growth, the Shared Equipment Center “Molecular Oncology and Biotechnology,” and the Cell Bank of Human and Animal Tissue Lines.

Introductory lectures and presentations of scientific achievements were delivered by:

  • Tetiana Borikun, PhD in Biology, Senior Researcher at the Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design;
  • Taras Zadvornyi, PhD in Biology, Senior Researcher at the Department of Cytomorphology and Molecular-Biological Markers of Tumor Growth;
  • Petro Virych, PhD, Junior Researcher at the Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design;
  • Anna Pavlova, Junior Researcher and Postgraduate Student at the Department of Cytomorphology and Molecular-Biological Markers of Tumor Growth;
  • Oleksandr Mushii, Junior Researcher and Postgraduate Student at the Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design;
  • Tamara Kozak, Leading Engineer and Postgraduate Student at the Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design;
  • Kyrylo Saulenko, Leading Engineer at the Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design.

We look forward to welcoming everyone interested in learning more about the work of our Institute during the next Open Days on June 19–20, 2025. We also invite all interested students—biophysicists, biochemists, physiologists, molecular biologists, geneticists, microbiologists, virologists, and radiobiologists—to join our research team for internships and for conducting bachelor’s and master’s theses within the scientific departments and laboratories of the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the NAS of Ukraine!
