Current priority research, modern methods

Research work “Development of technology transfer strategies in oncological practice, taking into account the specifics of Ukraine” (state registration No. 011U103932 dated 11.12.2019, departmental, applied 2020–2024). Profile – development of strategies for technology transfer in oncological practice and their implementation in models for the commercialization of means to overcome oncogenesis using nanocomposites and biotechnologies.

Object of research – scientific and technical development in the field of oncology (product, method, technology, medical device). Subject of research – technology transfer, commercialization of means to overcome oncogenesis using nanocomposites and biotechnologies. Purpose of the work – development of strategies for technology transfer in oncological practice and their implementation in a model for commercializing means to overcome oncogenesis using nanocomposites and biotechnologies. Complex tasks: – Research tasks: – analysis of the subject area regarding mechanisms, methods, and forms of commercialization of experimental developments in the field of oncology in Ukraine and worldwide; – Step-by-step development and creation of a conceptual scheme of possible ways to transfer scientific and technical developments in oncology: – Formation of a logical structure of the conceptual scheme by classifying a system of interrelated information blocks (terms and concepts) in the subject area of technology transfer and commercialization of scientific -technical activities in oncology; – to investigate: – the peculiarities of the life cycle of scientific and technical developments in the field of oncology; – the peculiarities of conducting patent research in the field of oncology; – the peculiarities of assessing property rights to intellectual property objects that make up the intellectual property portfolio; – effective mechanisms, methods, and forms of technology transfer and commercialization of scientific and technical developments in oncology; – features of the formation of markets and types of marketing strategies for the promotion of oncological products, technologies, and medical devices; – specifics of procedures for registering/licensing a product, technology, or medical device to obtain the status of “laboratory sample,” “sample for small-scale production,” “sample for mass production,” or “disposal/liquidation”; – development of recommendations for optimizing methodological approaches and algorithms for conducting information and patent research in the field of oncology; – development of recommendations for optimizing the organizational structure and operating principles of the technology transfer office for the implementation of innovative research management tasks in specialized oncology research institutions and higher education institutions, taking into account international experience.

The most significant results for 2020-2024.

The scientific and practical results obtained in the course of research work, in general, make a significant contribution to the tools of innovation management and provide an opportunity to carry out practical guidance, form sound management decisions regarding the prospects for commercialization of intellectual property and scientific -technical developments and determine its strategies (methodological approaches, mechanisms, methods, forms, features) both in general and at each specific stage of the life cycle of various types of innovative products in oncological practice in Ukraine.

The main way and method of further using the results of research on strategies for commercializing innovations in oncological practice may be their application in practical cases of commercialization and technology transfer of diverse scientific developments of scientific institutions and state-owned higher education institutions of various departmental subordination, whose activities are related to research in the field of clinical and experimental oncology.

The results of scientific research, namely:

  • a conceptual theoretical model of technology transfer strategy in the form of a conceptual diagram created by classifying and organizing a system of interrelated information blocks (terms and concepts) in the subject area of technology transfer;
  • a methodology for evaluating property rights to intellectual property and scientific and technical developments using income and cost approaches, which demonstrated the significant commercial potential of the developments and made it possible to evaluate intellectual property for the purpose of its sale;
  • methodology for determining the characteristics of the life cycle of scientific and technical developments in the biomedical field and oncology, in particular;
  • features of conducting patent research in the field of oncology and others, together, constitute the scientific and methodological basis for the strategy of technology transfer of oncological innovations.

The department was established in January 2008 in accordance with the Order of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine “On Subdivisions for Technology Transfer, Innovation, and Intellectual Property” in pursuance of the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Activities in the Field of Technology Transfer,” Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 995 and Order of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine No. 15 dated January 16, 2007, and with the aim of improving the level of protection of intellectual property rights in institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as ensuring the marketing of scientific research results and expanding their implementation.

When it was created, the structural unit was called the Department of Scientific and Methodological Support for Innovative Activities. In April 2016, following the structural reorganization of the institute, the department was renamed the Department of Scientific Research and Innovation Management, and in 2024 it was renamed the Department of Patent and Licensing Activities and Information Support. Since its creation, the structural unit has been headed by T.V. Pyatchanina, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Senior Research Fellow
