Open Days at the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the NAS of Ukraine, June 8-11, 2026
On June 8, 9, and 11, 2026, the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine hosted Open Days for first- and second-year students of the Educational and Scientific Center «Institute of Biology and Medicine» of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Over the course of three days, nearly 80 students had an opportunity to become acquainted with the Institute’s research activities, modern approaches to studying the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, cancer progression, and metastasis, as well as advanced scientific equipment used in fundamental and translational cancer research.
The participants visited the following scientific units of the Institute:
- Department of Tumor Process Monitoring and Therapy Design;
- Laboratory of Molecular Mechanisms of Cell Transformation;
- Department of Cytomorphology and Molecular Biological Markers of Tumor Growth;
- Department of Functional Genomics and Cancer Progression;
- Department of Pathophysiology of Metastasis;
- Center for Collective Use of Scientific Instruments «Molecular Oncology and Biotechnology»;
- Bank of Cell Lines from Human and Animal Tissues.
During the laboratory tours, students were introduced to contemporary molecular, cellular, morphological, and genomic research methods. They also learned about the organization of scientific work within research institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and had the opportunity to communicate directly with young researchers and leading scientists of the Institute.
The tours were organized and conducted with the participation of: Iryna Hanusevych, DSc (Biology), Senior Research Scientist; Oleksandra Lykhova, PhD, Senior Researcher; Larysa Shlapatska, PhD, Senior Research Scientist; Nataliia Fedosova, PhD, Senior Researcher; Larysa Kovalevska, PhD, Senior Researcher; Taras Zadvornyi, PhD; Tetiana Borikun, PhD; Petro Virych, PhD; Oleksandr Mushii, PhD Student; Anna Pavlova, PhD Student; Tetiana Burda, PhD Student; Kyrylo Saulenko, PhD Student; and Alla Verbynenko, Lead Engineer.
The Open Days served as an important initiative aimed at promoting scientific research among young people, fostering students’ interest in biomedical sciences, and familiarizing future specialists with modern achievements in experimental oncology. Such events contribute to strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and universities, while encouraging talented students to pursue careers in research.
